Atlas — Privacy Policy
Effective Date: May 8, 2026
Thank you for trusting Atlas with your information. We've written this policy in plain language — minimal legal jargon — because transparency is the foundation of trust. Questions? Email us at contact@atlastheapp.com.
Who We Are
Atlas ("Atlas," "we," "us," or "our") is a private, membership-based community platform for digital nomads and travelers. We operate the Atlas mobile application ("App"), available on the Apple App Store, and the website at atlastheapp.com (collectively, the "Service").
This Privacy Policy applies to all users of the Service, including membership applicants, current members, and website visitors. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of your information as described here.
Information We Collect
Information You Give Us
- Phone number. Collected at registration to create your account and verify your identity via SMS one-time passcode (OTP). Your phone number is your primary account identifier.
- Profile information. Your name, date of birth (used to calculate and display your age), profile photos, biography, home city, travel preferences, and any other details you choose to add.
- Trip information. Details about trips you create or apply to, including destination, travel dates, group size, and descriptions.
- Messages. Content of messages sent through Atlas in-app messaging, including connection requests, trip applications, and direct conversations.
- Membership application. Information submitted when applying for Atlas membership.
- Payment information. Subscriptions are processed through Apple's In-App Purchase system. We do not store your full credit card number. We may receive limited transaction metadata such as subscription tier, purchase date, and transaction identifiers.
- Support communications. Records of your exchanges with our support team, retained to help resolve issues and improve the Service.
Information We Collect Automatically
- Usage data. Screens visited, features used, buttons tapped, and time spent in the App.
- Device information. Device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information.
- Log data. IP address, access times, referring URLs, and error logs.
- Location data. With your permission, approximate or precise location to surface relevant trips or display your general location. You can withdraw this permission at any time in your device Settings.
Information From Third Parties
- Authentication. We use Supabase for account management and Twilio for SMS delivery of verification codes.
- Analytics. Third-party analytics tools help us understand engagement with the Service. These providers receive only aggregated or pseudonymized data where possible.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide the Service. Create and manage your account, authenticate your identity, display your profile to members, and facilitate trip connections and messaging.
- Membership review. Evaluate membership applications and communicate decisions.
- Process subscriptions. Manage your subscription, process payments, and grant appropriate access levels.
- Communicate with you. Send service notifications (account updates, messages, trip activity), security alerts, and — with your consent — marketing communications.
- Safety and trust. Investigate reports, enforce our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, verify user ages, and protect the integrity of our community.
- Improve the Service. Analyze usage patterns to fix bugs, enhance existing features, and build new ones.
- Legal compliance. Meet legal obligations, respond to lawful requests, and protect the rights of Atlas and its members.
We do not use your information to make fully automated decisions with significant legal or similar effects without human review.
How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information.
With Other Members
Your profile (name, age, photos, bio, home city, travel preferences) is visible to Atlas members as part of the core experience. Trip details you post are visible to members. Messages are visible only to intended recipients.
With Service Providers
We work with trusted third-party vendors to operate the Service, including:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and backend infrastructure
- Twilio — SMS delivery for phone number verification
- Apple — in-app purchases and subscription management

All service providers are contractually required to protect your information and may only use it to perform services on our behalf.
For Legal Reasons
We may disclose your information if required by law or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of any person, prevent fraud, or defend the rights of Atlas.
Business Transfers
If Atlas is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may transfer as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
With Your Consent
We may share information in other ways when you have explicitly consented.
Data Retention
We retain your personal information while your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required for legal, safety, or fraud prevention purposes, or where information has already been shared with others and cannot be retracted (e.g., a message already received by another member). Anonymized aggregate data may be retained indefinitely for analytics and product improvement.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards including encrypted data transmission (TLS), secure backend infrastructure through Supabase, and strict access controls limiting which personnel can access personal data. No system is 100% secure — if you suspect your account has been compromised, reach out to contact@atlastheapp.com immediately.
